The aims of teaching writing at Long Toft are to develop pupils who:

 

  • show high levels of achievement and exhibit very positive attitudes towards writing;
  • make links between their reading and their identity as a writer
  • are competent, confident and independent in the use of language in their writing.
  • have an awareness of different audiences and purposes for writing.
  • apply their grammatical knowledge in their writing
  • apply their phonics and spelling knowledge in their writing
  • apply high standards of writing in all areas of the curriculum
  • show pride in the presentation of their work and are competent and fluent in their handwriting.

 

At Long Toft Primary we provide daily English lessons that are progressive and support skill development.

At the heart of our English curriculum are a range of high-quality texts selected by phase teams that weave seamlessly into our Long Toft Curriculum and form the basis of our writing provision following the 7 step sequence as outlined in our policy attached below.
