At Long Toft Primary School, we used Read Write Inc (RWI) programme to provide a strong consistent foundation to help your child to learn.

RWI is a phonics-based approach to teaching reading. It involves children learning to read sounds and how to blend them together to read words.

Once the children have learnt their sounds the programme enables every child to become a confident and fluent reader at a pace they are comfortable with.

The RWI Programme is structured to support your child to learn 44 sounds (speed sounds). These are the sounds the letters make and not the letter names. These sounds are divided into small groups called Set 1, Set 2 and Set 3.
